5 Things You Need to Know About Microneedling

If you’re wearing the unwanted signs of ageing, have scars, blemishes, or other pigmentation issues, it can be easy to lose self-confidence. Fortunately, many skin problems can be addressed through non-surgical cosmetic procedures. One such example is microneedling.

As the name suggests, microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that uses small needles. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this advanced procedure can enhance the appearance of your skin and remove wrinkles, scars, and blemishes.

Before you make your microneedling appointment with Define Clinic, you may want to learn a little more about the treatment. To help you get a better understanding of what the procedure entails, here are some essential facts you need to know about microneedling.

1. Microneedling Isn’t New

Although microneedling has risen in popularity considerably over the last few years, it’s actually been around for a long time. In 1905, the German dermatologist, Ernst Kromayer first started pricking the surface of the skin using dental burs to treat hyperpigmentation, scars, and birthmarks.

The cosmetic treatment didn’t really shoot to prominence until the mid-1990s when Dr Desmond Fermandes started using hypodermic needles to treat scars and wrinkles.

Microneedling uses small needles to boost collagen production, the results are a noticeable reduction in the signs of ageing,

Over the last two decades, doctors have considerably refined the treatment, making it safer and more effective than ever. Today, it’s one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures available.

2. Home Rollers Can’t Achieve the Same Results As Professional Microneedling

When exploring anti-ageing treatments, you may have come across microneedle rollers and devices that you can use at home. It can be very tempting to want to give these products a go, after all, they often cost less than professional microneedling.

Of course, you pay for what you get. At-home treatments are considerably less effective than the type of in-clinic treatments we offer. Not only do the results from these products not stand up against professional microneedling, but these home treatments are not carried out in a sanitary medical space by a trained, skilled clinician.

Added to this, our microneedling technique offers amazing precision, allowing us to target the specific skin issues you’d like removing.

3. There’s No Downtime With Microneedling

With many surgical procedures to address cosmetic skin issues, you often have to think about how long the recovery time is. If you’re worried that you’ll need to take time off work, or cancel your regular activities while you get over your treatment, don’t.

Because microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment, there’s no downtime. Your skin might look a bit red for about 24-hours after treatment, but this is completely normal and will pass quickly on its own.

While your skin is recovering from the treatment, it’s always best to wear 30 SPF for a few weeks to give it extra protection.

4. The Results Are Noticeable

Of course, whenever you get a cosmetic treatment, you’ll want to see the results yourself. The results will usually start showing a week after the procedure; however, you’ll probably notice that the area around the treatment site will become plumper immediately.

Your collagen reserves will take a while to build up, and when there’s adequate amounts, healthy skin repair will occur. The result is a healthy, natural glow, and improved skin quality.

In all, it can take up to six weeks for the full effects to show; but, the skin repair process will be stimulated for up to nine months. For sustained results, we’d suggest coming back for repeat treatments.

5. There Is Minimal Discomfort With Microneedling

With any procedure, it’s natural to worry about whether it’ll hurt. The great news is that, due to the advanced technology we use, coupled with anaesthetics, we’re able to ensure the experience is as comfortable as possible for you.

Added to this, we’ve made our treatment area as calming and relaxing as possible, so that you feel completely at ease throughout your procedure.
