PRP – What Is A Vampire Facial?

What Is PRP?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, which consists of two elements – plasma (the liquid portion of blood) and platelets (the cells that circulate within our blood and bind together when they recognise damaged blood vessels). These two essential elements play a huge role in healing the body. They hold growth properties, as well as being able to trigger cell reproduction. Platelet-rich plasma contains more platelets than normal.

Why Is PRP Used For A Facial?
Technically, it’s not a facial but the treatment is designed specifically for the skin. Due to the properties PRP holds, it promotes skin healing, increased collagen production, thicker and tighter skin, enhances skin tone and texture and a more radiant complexion. For best results, we recommend having 3 sessions 1 month apart and we’ve seen incredible results from the patients that come to us for the Vampire Facial!

How Does The Treatment Work?
To create platelet-rich plasma, clinicians take a blood sample from the patient and put it into a device called a centrifuge which rapidly spins the sample and separates components in the blood from the platelets. The plasma is then extracted from the blood and injected back into the patient’s face using a mesotherapy technique. It is a short and painless treatment, usually taking around 20 minutes.

Can PRP Only Help With Skin Troubles?
No, PRP can help with many things. Because of its healing and growth properties, PRP is popular with sporting injuries such as torn tendons, muscle injuries and arthritis-related pain. A lot of sporting injuries can take a long time to heal, so adding PRP can help to stimulate the healing process. It has also become increasingly popular for hair replacement. Specialists are now using PRP injections for both preventing hair loss and promoting new hair growth, as it can aid the stimulation of hair growth.

Are There Any Side Effects Or Risks?
Like ALL treatments, there are always going to be potential risks. However, with PRP, the risks are very minute, and it is a very low-risk treatment. This is because what is being injected into you, is already in your body! The risk of an allergic reaction is very minimal compared to other treatments.
