Your Right to a Chaperone at Define Clinic
What is a Chaperone?
A chaperone is a trained staff member who stays in the room during your consultation or examination. They are there to support you, protect your privacy and dignity, and keep you safe.
Your Choices
You have the right to ask for a chaperone – and we will do our best to provide one.
We may also ask you to have a chaperone present as part of our best practice approach.
You can choose not to have a chaperone – and that’s completely fine. If you decide this, we will make a note of your choice in your records.
How to Request a Chaperone
If you would like a chaperone to be present during your appointment:
- Please let us know when you book your appointment
- You can tell us by email or phone
- We will confirm arrangements before your visit
- Or simply let the clinician know when you arrive
About Your Chaperone
Our chaperones will:
- Introduce themselves and explain why they’re present
- Keep everything you discuss completely private and confidential
- Help you feel comfortable and supported
- Respect your privacy and dignity at all times
- Be alert to any concerns and speak up if needed
- Make a note in your records that they were present
Important: If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian will normally stay with you during your appointment and act as support.
